What is Surface Guided Radiation Therapy (SGRT)?
SGRT involves the use of camera systems to track surface data, providing more guidance across every step of the RT workflow. The goal of SGRT is to improve the safety, efficiency, and efficacy of external beam radiation oncology across the entire Radiation Therapy workflow.
SGRT is used clinically during simulation, treatment planning, and treatment delivery. Newer applications of SGRT allow for dose visualization at the time of treatment.
Key applications include:
- The use of surface guidance to enable contactless 4DCT scans and coach and monitor breath-hold CT.
- The use of surface guidance to enable accurate patient setup and real-time motion management.
- The use of surface guidance to provide a full-body contour of the patient, enabling accurate collision checks during treatment planning and potentially improving the treatment plans.
- The use of surface guidance combined with Cherenkov imaging to visualize the radiation dose during treatment delivery, enabling real-time dose detection.
