Swallowing movement during larynx radiotherapy

Hello all

I would like to know that how well and widely the issue Surface guided motion management in glottic larynx stereotactic body radiation therapy - ScienceDirect has been put into practice and how is it working? Is small ROI working well on top of larynx during treatment without false beam interruptions due to blocking issues etc.? I am grateful of any feedback given (positive and negative) around the topic of combination of larynx RT and AlignRT.

Regards Marko

Hi Marko!

we have implemented a “no swallow” protocol at our instituting using AlignRT. we have a small ROI covering the neck/larynx region and we monitor the patient with beam control. if the patient swallows the beam holds for a few seconds. I can share more with you offline if interested.

Regards,

Adi

Hi Marko, we use it for all our SAbR larynx patients. David Sher recently published the clinical outcomes: Redirecting. Gating with AlignRT works pretty well with couch angles within +/- 45 degrees, depending on the patient, 90-degree couch rotations can be problematic due to the limited view and only half the ROI being visible on the neck.

Cheers,

Dave
